Unwritten Rules of Life: Do Be Preppy

Interview Preparation:

Don’t go into an interview blind! Doing your homework can be the difference between landing the job and not getting a call back.   We discuss what type of research you should be doing before an interview or meeting and how much of a difference that can make. Knowing about the company and the person you’re speaking with can help them see you as more than an interview candidate and can take the conversation to the next level. By asking questions that show you have done your homework, you can really impress the interviewer and make them want to hire you, or at the very least, make a great impression. There is no downside to being prepared!

We introduce a guest for this episode, Allison, who joins us to help exemplify this point with specific tips relevant to today’s recent grads. She talks about her experiences and the impact that preparation has made for her in both interviews and networking situations.

Unwritten Rules of Life: Jobless Anonymous Ep. 1.1

Transitioning and Networking:

This was actually recorded shortly after Jobless Anonymous Ep. 1, our first podcast concerning the Unwritten Rules of Life. We thought we would also release this version as it provides a slightly different lens to some of the same all important information.

We cover the concepts of moving out of college and into the “terrifying real world”. This episode takes a more nuts and bolts approach as opposed to the more abstract approach of Jobless Anonymous Ep. 1. Learn how to cultivate and properly use a network to your advantage.

Definitely give this podcast a listen as it really outlines concrete strategies you can use to more successfully get help from those around you! Also, if you listened to the first Jobless Anonymous, let us know what you think on our stylistic choices in this episode versus the first episode. We’d love your feedback!

Enjoy and let us know what you think in the comments either on social or our WordPress.

Unwritten Rules of Life: Boxers and Ballgowns

Dress, Appearance, and First Impressions:

Your qualifications and personality SHOULD be all that matters when meeting someone for the first time. Appearances, however, can put up a barrier that can be difficult for your qualifications to climb over! Don’t let something so easy and something most of you probably find so trivial keep you from your goals.

From coffee to interviews, we walk you through letting your personalities speak through your attire. Most importantly, we enable you to do what most professionals view as a “meets minimum” by giving pointers on how to dress appropriately for a variety of situations. These guidelines should keep you from letting the other party mentally check out as soon as you walk in the door. When in doubt air on the professional side!
